 productive composer, Hallvard Johnsen
(1916-2003) wrote 24 symphonies over a period of more than fifty
years, through which his compositional development may be traced.
 allvard Johnsen`s other central works include six concertos, three operas – of
which the religious opera, The Legend of Svein and Maria, opus 56 (1971)
should be especially mentioned, the cantata Krosspåske, opus 39 (1963),
the oratorio Logos, opus 76 for soloists, choir and orchestra, a number
of chamber music works for winds and six string quartets.
